Origin of Renewable Gases

Pursuant to Government Decree 215/2024. (VII. 29.), from 1 April 2024 the energy quantity of renewable gas may only be certified by the seller to the user by means of a guarantee of origin.

This guarantee of origin (GO) is an independently tradable electronic document. According to the Decree, the supervision of the system and the issuance of guarantees are carried out by the Supervisory Authority for Regulatory Affairs (SZTFH) or the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH). The establishment and operation of renewable gas production, conversion or storage facilities must be audited by an independent organization. Axing Zrt., as an accredited verification body and as an auditor having concluded a cooperation agreement with MEKH pursuant to Government Decree 215/2024. (VII. 29.), performs the audit according to the following process steps:

1. qualification audit of a renewable gas production facility – independent, impartial, third-party audit for obtaining the GO
2. annual surveillance audit relating to operation – independent, impartial, third-party audit for maintaining the qualification

In addition to the general steps (quotation, contract, pre-engagement assessments), the audit-related steps are as follows:

1. planning of the audit. Requesting documentation relating to material flow, technology, data, systems, etc.
2. evaluation of the received documentation (preliminary)
3. on-site inspection/evaluation
4. preparation of qualification and audit report
5. planning of surveillance audits
